Crowned in glory - Roaring River the toast of WFA awards

Major League champions Roaring River FC last weekend collected the coveted JB Dujon/Captain Bakery Trophy and $150, 000 at the Westmoreland Football Association (WFA) end-of-season presentation and awards ceremony.

The team also produced the competition's Most Valuable Player (MVP), striker Jaya Vassell, and the Coach of the Year, Luke Vassell.

"It is really an exciting time for Roaring River FC as winning the major league will open up new doors of opportunity for the players," said Dwayne Vaz, the member of Parliament for Central Westmoreland.

"I plan to work closely with the club going forward as I believe they have the potential to achieve great things."

Everton Tomlinson, the president of the WFA, noted that Roaring River has now qualified for next season's Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Western Confederation Super League.

BOLD EFFORT REWARDED

Delveland FC, which lost to Roaring River in the major league final, was rewarded for their bold effort with a $70,000 cash prize for their second-place finish.

Forever Sports walked away with two of the major trophies as their top striker, Alvas Cooper, emerged the competition's leading goalscorer, while his teammate, Owayne Rickettes, copped the top goalkeeper award. The club also shared the Most Disciplined Team award with Hartford United, for which they shared $60,000.
